Troop 500

Troop 500 prepares young people to become confident leaders, responsible citizens, and active members of their communities through the adventure and values of Scouting America. Guided by the Scout Oath and Scout Law, our youth develop character, leadership, citizenship, and outdoor skills while building friendships that last a lifetime.

We welcome boys and girls ages 11–17, as well as youth who have completed the Arrow of Light rank in fifth grade. Whether they are joining Scouting for the first time or continuing their journey from Cub Scouts, every Scout is encouraged to challenge themselves, serve others, and discover what they are capable of achieving.

What sets Troop 500 apart is our culture of youth leadership, mentorship, and service. Our experienced Scouts plan meetings, lead campouts, teach outdoor skills, and mentor younger members, creating an environment where leadership is learned by doing. Many of our older Scouts remain active throughout high school, providing younger Scouts with role models who inspire confidence, growth, and lasting friendships.

Our commitment to leadership extends beyond our troop. Troop 500 Scouts regularly serve in the Order of the Arrow, staff district and council events, and help lead Camporee, giving back to the Scouting community while developing skills for a lifetime.

Fun adventures are at the heart of everything we do. From monthly outdoor activities and summer camp to High Adventure expeditions, every experience is designed to build confidence, resilience, teamwork, and a lifelong love of the outdoors. Whether a Scout's goal is earning Eagle, mastering new skills, or simply finding their place in a supportive community, Troop 500 provides the opportunities, guidance, and encouragement to help them succeed.

Troop 500 meets Mondays during the school year from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church, located at 201 4th Street SE, Washington, DC (on the corner of 4th and Independence, SE).
